New offices / expansion / strategic partnerships

Asia’s online panel provider GMO Research, Inc. has announced a strategic alliance with Borderless Access – the emerging markets online specialist. The multi-panel solution branded as Asia Cloud Panel, now covers 13 APAC Countries and has reach to more than 14 million consumers across APAC.

Netherlands-based customer insights agency SKIM has opened an office in Singapore in January, led by Director Robin de Rooij. The company was founded in 1979 and also has offices in London, Geneva, Rotterdam, New York, San Francisco, Rio de Janeiro and San José, serving clients in the CPG, healthcare, technology and financial services sectors. Founder Dirk Huisman says the launch should fuel new opportunities into other cities in the region, and that finding local partners with in-depth knowledge of the culture, language and relevant socio- economics is vital as the company expands further into Asia.

Kantar Media and CSM Media Research have partnered with Hong Kong\’s largest TV broadcaster Now TV, to roll out the region’s first cross-platform television audience measurement system using return path data (RPD) technology. The partners are to introduce a ratings system that captures and reflects total cross-platform viewing in and out of home; and claim this will be the first such RPD measure in Hong Kong, based on automated system-captured data.

Dubai-based 42 market research enhances its panels for medical research in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines. This is done in a bid to gain deeper insights from physicians and healthcare professionals across a wider spectrum and effectively penetrate the pharmaceutical market research industry in the region.

Intel-funded big data giant Cloudera is opening offices in three major Chinese cities, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, from which to accelerate its growth both in the country and in Asia more generally. The sites will provide the rapidly-growing company with R&D and customer support, professional services, and work on IT, sales and marketing and partner alliances.

UK-based mobile video MR specialist VoxPopMe has expanded to Singapore with the appointment of Robert Fry as Managing Director, Asia Pacific. The firm has also launched an app for iPhone, with an Android version available early in 2015. The company plans to use the launch of its app in Singapore as a springboard to begin servicing the wider Asia region.

On-demand panel and sample company Innovate has opened an office in Gurgaon, India, where it has already hired a number of execs for its operations team. Launched earlier this year by uSamp/goZing founders Matt Dusig and Gregg Lavin, and their former colleague George Llorens, the firm pinpoints global panelists on demand and delivers sample via connected APIs.


M & A / transactions

FocusVision, with offices in the US, the UK, Bulgaria and Singapore,  has acquired generic adderall identification quantitative market research technology and services firm, Decipher. Decipher is best known for its powerful survey programming and reporting platform, which will now become part of the FocusVision family of products.

Online research specialist Macromill has formed a joint venture (JV) with medical information provider CareNet, in Tokyo, to provide marketing research services across the medical sector. The new JV, known as Macromill-CareNet, will combine Macromill\’s research expertise with CareNet\’s curated physician panel, to help pharmaceutical companies with the delivery of complex studies.

Marcoms group Dentsu Aegis Network has acquired US-based digital marketing agency Rockett Interactive, which uses data and analytics to drive the development of its clients\’ marketing programs. Rockett Interactive will become part of Dentsu Aegis Network and move towards operating as part of iProspect, the group\’s global digital performance agency.

Research technology and panel exchange operator Cint has appointed Morten Strand as its new CEO, replacing Bo Mattsson who it says will \’remain on the board and continue to be a strong influence in the company\’. Strand, who will be based at the company Stockholm headquarters, was previously COO at SaaS company Visma Software, and brings a strong understanding of business process optimisation, as well as \’vast experience in the development of market leadership and a passion for innovation and partnering\’.

TNS has appointed Serena Jacob as Managing Director for TNS Qualitative in Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. Jacob joins with more than 25 years\’ experience working in qualitative research and consultancy across the region. In her new role, Jacob will be responsible for further strengthening TNS\’ qualitative capabilities across Asia Pacific and working closely with senior qualitative practitioners, country MDs and clients.

As a result of recent strong growth in Asia Pacific, global business intelligence firm ORC International expands Asia Pacific Leadership by announcing new appointments to its APAC team. Craig Young, who previously led the company’s public sector practice in Australia as Managing Director, Government and Social, is promoted to the new role of Managing Director in charge of its Australian business. ORC International also announces the appointment of Mia Wong to Senior Vice President, Customer Research – Asia. Based in Hong Kong, Wong will take responsibility for growing the portfolio of Customer Research in the Asia region.

Kantar has announced that Mark Inskip, will take the role of Global CEO of its consulting business The Futures Company, from February. He replaces Will Galgey who is moving to the role of CEO of TNS UK. Inskip will be based in London and will report to Kantar President Wayne Levings. The Futures Company was formed in 2008 through the integration of The Henley Centre, HeadlightVision, Yankelovich and most recently youth research unit TRU. It now boasts eight offices in Europe, North America, Argentina, Brazil, Singapore and China.
